When the app builder builds an app that needs to notify someone, it sets up the notifications as part of the build. You don’t have to configure anything to get them working.

Changing what an app sends

An app’s notifications are part of the app, so you change them in the build chat, the same way you change anything else about it. Describe the change in plain language:
  • “Notify the client when their intake is approved.”
  • “Email the assigned teammate when a request is overdue.”
  • “Stop emailing clients when a document is uploaded.”
  • “Rename the ‘New submission’ notification to ‘New intake form’.”
See Iterating on apps. For how the builder decides who to notify and on which channel, see Notifications.

How your team controls delivery

Each kind of notification an app sends to internal users becomes a row in the app’s section of Settings > Notifications. The app sets which channels — product, email, or both — each row can use; each teammate then turns those on or off for themselves. See Internal user notifications.
When you want a notification worded differently, ask the builder to rename it rather than replace it. A renamed notification keeps everyone’s delivery preferences; a replacement is treated as a new notification, so every teammate’s preference for it starts over from the default.

What clients receive

Clients have no notification settings page, so what they receive is decided by the app itself — change it in the build chat as above. Your workspace-level client email settings still apply on top of whatever the app sends. See Client notifications. An app that notifies clients can also show a row in the Actions section of their Home app, such as “Review 3 documents”. See Home.
